DESCRIPTION:

For thousands of years, African healers have used devil's claw for many ailments. The only place on earth where this wonderful plant grows is the Kalahari Desert in southwestern Africa. In this extremely dry area, practically devoid of vegetation, devil's claw had to develop a special root system to store moisture. Growing to a depth of 120 cm, it branches into a cluster of tuberous roots resembling potatoes. From one hundred kilograms of these roots, six kilograms of raw material containing the active substance are obtained.

Its name comes from the appearance of thorny pods that develop from bright red flowers. These pods, like devil's claws, are so strong that pincers must be used to free animals' hooves from them.

Each root is dug up separately, sliced, dried, and ground. A sticky, difficult-to-process substance is obtained. Knowledge about this extraordinary African herb was acquired by European settlers at the beginning of the 20th century. One of them sent samples of dried devil's claw to Dr. Bernhard Zorn, head of the Institute of Physiology and Chemistry at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany.

Of course, medicinal experiments were first conducted on rats. Gout was induced in them using formaldehydes, and when inflammation developed after 12-14 days, the root was administered orally and by injection in the form of an infusion. Three series of trials were conducted. After five weeks of treatment with devil's claw, significant reduction of swelling and restoration of normal paw movements were observed, while in the control group spontaneous remission of gout was minimal.

The famous Swiss herbalist, after studying devil's claw as a health remedy, recommends an annual treatment with the root to everyone, claiming it will remove toxic residues from our bodies and allow us to enjoy a healthier life.
