Vitamin C plays a significant role in collagen production. With intense physical effort, the demand for vitamin C increases, so athletes, especially before competitions, should take a higher dose of this vitamin.

Vitamin C is used up faster under conditions of stress and physical strain. The human body should absorb at least 60 mg of vitamin C daily. Smokers and elderly people have an increased need for vitamin C (each cigarette destroys 25-250 mg). Modern preparations containing vitamin C also include bioflavonoids (e.g., from citrus fruits). They enhance the absorption of vitamin C, so their combined intake is recommended.
