The Javanese lemon grass, which comes from Indonesia and more precisely from the island of Java, is known for its lemon scent. Also known as "Indian verbena", these long, narrow leaves are widely used in cooking.
Its essential oil is obtained from fresh aerial parts by steam distillation. In this process, the volatile components of the leaves (essential oil) are carried along with the steam. The vapor is then condensed in an essential oil separator, separating the essential oils from the hydrolate (water).
