Food supplement. Sodium butyrate, also known as butyric acid, is a fatty acid formed by the bacterial breakdown of fiber in the intestines and plays an important role in the functioning of the digestive system.
It is also found in animal fats and vegetable oils, but the amount of butyric acid in products such as butter and ghee is small compared with the amount produced in the intestines.
