Manuka honey – nature's antibacterial multitasker
Manuka honey is a special honey originating from New Zealand, made by bees from the flowers of Manuka bushes. It is known for its strong antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, which are due to components such as methylglyoxal and hydrogen peroxide.
Manuka honey supports the body's immune system, relieves sore throat, and alleviates digestive issues. Its anti-inflammatory and probiotic properties also make it a valuable aid for gut health. Additionally, it is nutrient-rich and energy-dense, which is why some athletes use it before performances – but in moderation due to blood sugar fluctuations.
When used externally, Manuka honey promotes skin healing, effectively moisturizes, and soothes irritated skin. It is suitable, for example, for acne treatment and as a skin-renewing facial mask.
What is Manuka honey?
In 2013, a working group was established with the New Zealand government to define the eligibility criteria for bee products known as Manuka honey. According to a study conducted in July 2014, Manuka honeys are homogeneous honeys produced exclusively in New Zealand during the flowering period of Manuka bushes, and they are mainly produced from the nectar of plants of the Leptospermum scoparium species.
What is MGO™?
MGO™ stands for Methylglyoxal – a natural substance recognized by researchers as the characteristic ingredient of Manuka honey, which, due to its high concentration, distinguishes it from other honeys on the market. MGO™
